first change interval

I keep reading about the first oil change at 1k miles which seems a bit too much considering it's the breakin period. My question is how important is it and is there a problem if I miss it or do it at 2k or something like that?

I wouldn't call it ideal, but I doubt it's gonna blow up your engine. The first service is to check and remove any metal shavings and a way to check and prevent any serious damage

The 1k-mile oil change is more about ensuring proper break-in and removing any debris from the engine, it's not a huge deal if you do it at 2k, but sooner is better

That 1,000-mile oil change is recommended as a precaution. Personally I ended up doing mine closer to 2,000 miles. I can't really tell if it was the best move because my car burned some oil early on. Anyway, I haven't had any issues since but I also try to really stick to the regular service intervals.
