Engine oil unusual value

I'm not sure if this is something to worry about. My new GR86 has only got 1,200 miles on it. Now, it has already consumed 28 oz of engine oil. Is this usual for the break-in or do I have to panic now? Is there any way this can slow down?

I get your worry! I drive a '22 GR86 Premium and I remember it burned some oil early on, but it settled down after 2,000 miles. But 28oz in 1,200 miles is a bit too much, even for a break-in.

No need to panic yet but keep monitoring! Make sure you're following the break-in procedure based on the manual and keep a close eye on your oil level. Document everything too especially when you'd need to take it to you dealer.

Geez, that quantity sounds a little high for me!

I'm not 100% sure if I'm on the right track, but I'm relatively new in owning a GR86, and honestly, I've been treating it like a baby! So I try to vary the RPMs and avoid any hard acceleration. I also try to check the oil level religiously! So far, I haven't had any issues and hopefully none in the coming months!

Anyway, I hope yours is a temporary thing or that you've got it sorted out by now!

I've been watching my own GR86 too, and honestly, the oil consumption has me a bit uneasy. 28 oz at 1,200 miles feels higher than I expected during break in. I guess some use is normal but sometimes I wonder if it's just how these engines are or if something might be off
